If someone measured coffeehouses per capita, we’re pretty sure Nashville would top the list. From the old standbys to a few newcomers, there are dozens of places to get your coffee fix. Keep an eye out for our March issue, where we’ll break down what all the buzz is about. For now, check out our round up of the best java our caffeinated city has to offer.

Newest Coffee Shops:

8th & Roast
2108A 8th Avenue South
(615) 730-8074
roastinc.com

8th & Roast’s menu covers all the classic coffee and espresso drinks, but the real experience comes with their “pour-over” coffees. If you order a “pour-over” be prepared for a new definition of fresh. At a station to the side of the register, the barista gives you a choice of beans they roast in the back, grinds them, and pours hot water over the grounds and into a filter—one cup at a time. They have the process down to a science to maximize smoothness, and each cup demonstrates subtle layers of flavor. Roast, Inc., the parent company of this coffeehouse, has created an inviting, unique space with exposed brick, handmade light fixtures, original 1925 ceiling, and communal tables made from repurposed maple bowling alley lanes. If you can’t make it to this 8th Avenue South spot, don’t fret: their coffee beans are also available for purchase at Whole Foods in the Hill Center and at farmer’s markets in Nashville.

Frothy Monkey Franklin
125 5th Avenue South, Franklin
(615) 465-6279

Good news, Franklin! This 12South favorite has opened a new location in your neck of the woods. The menu is slightly different than its predecessor, with more focus on dinner items and evening beverages. They offer a great selection of wine and craft beers, as well as prosecco and kombucha on tap. They also have much more seating than the 12South location including 66 seats outside and an upstairs space available for special events and tastings. Our favorite drink is their homemade chai tea latte that put the prepackaged versions to shame.

Garage Coffee Company
Marathon Village
1200 Clinton Street, Studio #25
(888) 917-6789

Owner Robert Camardo was drawn to the Marathon Village location of this coffeehouse because of its automotive history. He wanted to create a café that didn’t look anything like the typical coffee shop—and he definitely succeeded. The unique blend names (Road Rage for regular, Anger Management for decaf), the motorcycle bags for sale, and the tables made from motorcycle lifts ensure a coffee experience like none other. The New Jersey native counts Mike Wolfe of American Pickers as a fan (and he can count us, too).

Grounds 4 Inspiration
7009 Lenox Village Drive, Suite E109
(615) 401-9769

Whether it’s to finish some work or relax and surf the web, there are some days when you just want to camp out at a coffee shop. Grounds 4 Inspiration is more than happy to accommodate those kinds of days. With their refill policy, you can get a mug of coffee for $1.75 with free refills all day, or if you take your coffee to go, bring the cup back at any point and get a refill for just 50 cents—unquestionably a steal.
