'My interior design goal, which Pete Stone made come true, was to take an industrial space and transform it into a glamorous home. I find that it's now ‘elegantly floppable,'” she says. 'Friends find it beautiful but aren't afraid to plop down and have a glass of wine.”
One step into realtor Laurie Sheinkopf's condominium in The Viridian reveals an eye-catching pink and gray color scheme with gorgeous panoramic views of Nashville. The floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows overlook the Cumberland River, Titans Stadium, and the rolling hills of East Nashville, making it the only place anyone would want to be on July Fourth. A Boston native, Sheinkopf relocated to Nashville in 1998, initially calling Franklin home. One night after dinner with friends, she stopped by an open house at the newly built Viridian. 'I fell in love with it and became the owner of a 618-square-foot condo. I went downtown for dinner and came home with a condo,” she laughs.
In 2008 Sheinkopf acquired a second one-bedroom condo. 'I retained the first condo, which I see as an investment and invite friends and clients to stay there,” she says. Then, in 2010, she says, 'a two-bedroom next door to the [original] one-bedroom became available, so I bought it, sold the Franklin house, and moved permanently downtown.”
Sheinkopf hosted a demolition party to tear down the wall separating the two condos, reconfiguring everything to create a spacious two-bedroom, three-bath retreat. But while she was pleased with the extensive renovations, she found the interior design lacking. 'Incredible views notwithstanding, it needed to be ‘glammed up,'” she says. She brought designer Pete Stone of Emory Stone Interiors on board (he also calls the Viridian home). Stone took Sheinkopf's ideas to the next level, providing just the glam factor this industrial style condominium needed.
An inviting entry hall leads to the homeowner's office, which contains a handcrafted desk with etched-glass detail. A Google search for elegant tables took Sheinkopf to Randy Block's website. 'He not only custom makes desks, he finds the tree, cuts it down, and processes it for his furniture designs,” she says. Once her desk was installed by Block himself, she commissioned custom built-in cabinets from Blue Company, Inc., a shimmering Schonbek black chandelier with Swarovski crystals, from her family's Boston based business, Yale Appliance and Lighting, adds glitter over a glass-topped Italian dining room table. The Italian hand-painted black lacquer chairs play off the chic pink buffet that sits along one wall and offers a vibrant pop of color against the black and white geometric wallpaper.
The living room begs to be lounged in with its ample seating, including a berry pink sofa, and a luxurious Nulco chandelier. Geometric twin coffee tables sit on a textured, neutral-colored area rug, complementing the grey tones of the concrete walls and ceiling but there is plenty of silver, plush gray, and splashes of pink to dress this room. A commercial-grade high-end surround sound system is set up so that Sheinkopf can control it from her digital devices.
The bathrooms offer some of the best form of bling, with one boasting glittering glass-block tile and black marble and the other, in the master suite, showcasing crystal-dressed faucets, a crystal chandelier hanging over the tub, and wallpaper made with crushed crystals. Meanwhile, skyline views dominate both bedrooms.
