We recently buttered up cooking show television host Paula Deen with questions about her upcoming visit to Nashville. Catch Deen and crew August 27 for Paula Deen Live! 90 mintues of cooking, stories and a lot of fun at Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
NL: In 3 words how would you describe the Paula Deen Live!?
PD: Food! Family! Fun!
The live show has a lot of different components aside from just cooking. Tell us how you came up with the idea and what the show is like.
The idea for the live shows was simple: I wanted to be able to connect with my fans on a personal level by interacting with them first-hand, through cooking on stage, playing games and just having a good time together! I can't tell you how much fun we have cooking up a storm in the kitchen, bringing fans up on stage to play games, like musical chairs, and you never know who might show up!
My sweet husband Michael is also on stage with me during the show and he definitely joins in on the excitement!
You're toting a whole kitchen, stage, etc. what kind of team does it take to get this tour on the road and how do you travel?
Yes! I've never done anything like this before, and it's been such a great experience. I'm fortunate enough to be surrounded by some of the best show producers out there; from stage hands, to promoters, to set designers. They're really the cream of the crop!
How did you decide which recipes to feature? Do they stay the same for each city?
We wanted to choose recipes that audiences would say, "Gosh, I can't wait to go home and make that!" Easy, approachable recipes that can become instant family-favorites. I've also partnered with my friends at Springer Mountain Farms to feature some mouthwatering chicken recipes that I can't wait to share! The types of recipes stay the same, but sometimes we'll switch them up based on the season.
What is your favorite part of the show?
My favorite part of the show is just interacting with all of my amazing fans. To be able to share this experience with them makes all of the hard work worth it and so much more!
Tell us about your new project, the Paula Deen Network. What do you think new and old fans will like the most?
The Paula Deen Network is a digital lifestyle network where I'll be able to share my passion for cooking. From showing my fans how to create healthy, budget-friendly meals for their family to featuring games and behind-the-scenes reality shows, there is just so much fabulous content all in one place. Fans can access it wherever and whenever they want. I can't wait until the network launches in September!
