Belk Makeover
Belk extends famous Southern hospitality to Nashville delegate to the Democratic National Convention

Our Heroes issue is only a few months away, but we can't resist highlighting Ivan Cerda, a 21-year-old local college student whose volunteerism is getting rewarded. For his outstanding work with at-risk youth at the Oasis Center, Cerda has been selected as the first Latino delegate on the district level from Tennessee to go to the Democratic National Convention. Leading retail department store , Belk, Inc. has come along side Cerda with a fabulous gift makeover to prepare him for the big convention this September in Charlotte, NC.
Belk is headquartered in the convention's host city of Charlotte and chose the makeover as a way to extend the famous Belk brand of Southern hospitality to the Nashville resident. Cerda is also being honored for his efforts as a mentor to youth through the Oasis Center, where he serves as a board member and strong advocate/teacher of democracy. Ivan's work and dedication to education align with Belk's long-standing commitment to benefit youth in the community and they went all out to prepare him for what comes next.
The Belk Foundation donated $25,000 to the Oasis Center's Nashville College Connection (of which Ivan is a board member).
