Reba's Makeup Artist shares his secrets

Reba McEntire’s fun and fab 70s-inspired look made her a standout as she hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night.

Want to get her award-worthy look? Here’s the scoop from celeb makeup artist Brett Freedman, with a rundown of what he used and why!

All the tricks from Brett himself:
This is the 4th year I've done Reba for the AMA's and the question is: How do I make it fresh? How can I change up Reba's hair and make up so we both perk up and get excited. The hardest part of Reba's look goes to Terry Gordon. They start months before sketching dresses and discussing not only what would look great, but feel current and unique. Countless fittings and adjustments continue with the dresses until the very last minute. Throw in a performance outfit and it makes for crazy busy time for them. For make up and hair it's much more pulling pix out of mags and talking about colors and textures. There isn't the stress like there is with the clothing. If I do something Reba doesn't like we can wipe it off and start over. Reba has been in the process of growing her hair past her collarbone. Reba loves long hair but doesn't like the fuss of styling it. Together we've come up with ways for her to handle her own tresses on her days off. She now does her own hair beautifully! As any gal with natural curly hair knows, the blowouts and styling is exhausting if you don't have the right tools and a plan! I'm a huge fan of the 70's and have wanted to do an updated feathered 'do on Reebs but her length wasn't quite right. Now that's it's longer I felt we could flip it back and it would have enough length to cut the roundness. I wasn't quite sure how she'd like it...but she was totally game! Make-up wise I decided to sex up Reba's look for the night. I used a very taupe/neutral shades around the eyes to give them structure and a golden/apricot palate for her cheeks and lips. I felt that peachy tones would work well with all the dress colors. I decided to play only with lid color. I added a touch of silverly blue to her lids for her performance of her new single, Strange. I went in and around the eyes with black to smoke out them out and give her look a bit more edge. To cut the 'glamour' of the dresses Reba suggested we do a dark nail and I agreed it would give a nice uncommon touch.

Foundation: LORAC Breakthrough Performance Oil-Free (Shade: SMS 6)
Brett says: LOVE this stuff! So smooth and really vanishes into the skin. I did a touch warmer than Reba's usual shade since I did a glow to the body.

Highlighter: NARS Hungry Heart duo
Brett says: I used these shimmery shades to give Reba's browbone pop and I dapped a touch on the tops of her cheeks to catch light.

Eyeliner: MAC Eye Kohl Pencil Liner (Shade: Smolder)
Brett says: Love this Kohl eyeliner! So pigment packed. I rimmed Reba's inner eyes for her performance to give her eyes a little Rock Star oomph!

Lid color: MAC Scene satin finish eye shadow.
Brett says: I applied wet to give this gunmetal shade extra luster and a dry to a dewy look finish.

Brows: VANITYMARK ultra-brow pencil in Gingerella.
Brett says: SO important for redheads to have the right brow shade. Too light and taupe and your arches won't balance with your hair. Too dark and you'll look like you're wearing a wig!

Lip Liner: Shu Uemura Drawing Lip Pencil in Nude
Brett says: This pencil is the new lip neutral. Goes on smooth and really holds up.

Lip Gloss: Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect in #147
Brett says: Reflective and peachy...GREAT for spring/summer '09.

Body: Vanitymark‘s SUMMERSKIN and SHIMMERSKIN
Brett says: To give Reba a healthy glow that would work with the range of colored dresses she was wearing, I did an all over body bronzer with a touch of pink Not so much a tan as a healthy glow. (Summerskin) and as an icing on a cake I did an all over champagne shimmer to make her skin glisten (Shimmerskin). Both in a spray on formula to last longer...it was a looong night! Oh, and both are coconut scented, yum!

Hair: Freeze-It Hairspray
Brett says: When I'm doing hair that I just don't want to move... I use NOTHING holds like it and I love that it has a shining quality.
